As noted, former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was ringside with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at last night’s WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in Las Vegas.
The MMA star posted a photo of himself in a lucha libre mask and claimed that he “could feel at home” in the WWE, tagging current Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and teasing, “I wouldn’t mind taking another belt from you.”
Velasquez is 14-2 in his career as a fighter, with his only two defeats coming at the hands of two future Hall of Famers, Junior Dos Santos – a loss he would avenge twice – and Fabricio Werdum, both in championship bouts. All but two of his fights have been contested in a UFC octagon, with major victories over “Big Nog” Antonio Nogueira, Antonio Silva and of course Brock Lesnar.
His last win came at UFC 200 back in 2016, where he scored a TKO victory over Travis Browne in the first round. He was scheduled to face Werdum in a rematch, hoping to avenge his only other loss, but the Nevada State Athetic Commission refused to clear him after the discovery of bone spurs in his back. The latest is that Velasquez hopes to fight again by the end of 2018, but with 36 fast approaching (Lesnar is 40, to be fair) a potential career in WWE might not be completely off the table.
