After weeks of speculation, it has finally been confirmed. Patrick Vieira has officially been appointed the new manager of OGC Nice, leaving MLS club New York City FC to replace Lucian Favre in the south of France.

The former Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan midfielder had been apart of the City Group for eight years, first joining the group as a player for Manchester City and eventually taking over as head coach of NYCFC in 2016. Now, as he looks to return to France, he takes with him Assistant Coach Christian Lattanzio, Performance Coach Kristian Wilson and physical performance coach Matt Cook.

“I would like to thank City Football Group and NYCFC for the opportunity to have coached this tremendous football club. Leaving New York is an incredibly difficult decision for me and my family and one that has not been taken lightly.”

Vieira’s last game in charge of NYCFC was at Yankee Stadium in a 1-1 draw against Atlanta United, but he now looks set to bring Nice back to European competition – as they did under his predecessor Favre – in the region where his professional career began.

Nice fans will be pleased by his record in MLS with NYCFC, leaving the New York club with a record of 91 games managed, 40 wins, 23 draws, 28 losses and a win percentage of 43.96%. His record and style of play could be enough to fill the Nice fans with confidence, as will his man management skills.
