The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. ROH officials have announced that Final Battle is booked to be a four hour show, the show also has an official start time of 8pm on Friday the 14th.
PCO has apologized to fans and promoters for canceling all upcoming bookings as a result of his new deal with ROH. While the merits of a truly exclusive contract with non-WWE wrestling companies can be debated, PCO seems truly contrite as a result of the situation.
Matt Taven discussed who his “dream,” opponent would be at G1 Supercard in April. His preference would be to have a champion vs. champion match against whoever comes out as champion between Jay Lethal and Cody at Final Battle. This would appear to signal the creative direction of the world title for the first quarter of 2019.

Flip Gordon vs. Silas Young in an I quit match. This match resulted in a no contest (I didn’t think that was possible in an “I Quit,” match). Bully Ray came to the ring and choked out Flip with his steel chain. Bully then stood victories and then we were taken to a commercial break.
SCU came to the ring next, as they were about to say how Pittsburgh is the the worst…The Briscoes jumped them from behind and left them laying.
Next we had a sit down promo of Christopher Daniels discussing his could be final match, and how he doesn’t want that to be the case and he will do whatever he can to beat Marty and prove why he still has it.
Jay Lethal & Dalton Castle & Cody defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven, TK O’Ryan, and Vinny Marseglia) at 15:42.

•ROH in the Media

Matt Taven and COO Joe Koff appeared on separate shows of Wrestling Inc.’s “WincLY.” Koff had a mild state of the company talk, which was dominated by The Elite guys and who Joe thinks are going to be top guys in 2019. Taven had a Kayfabe-heavy interview detailing his upcoming title defense and how he would like a champion vs. champion match at G1 Supercard.

•Closing Commentary

Final Battle is coming up soon, or just happened, depending on when you are reading this. What are we to make of this show? Are we supposed to suspend disbelief and hope that The Elite guys will win every title match they are in and stay at ROH? Are we supposed to die on the ROH hill and hope that Jay Lethal, Jeff Cobb, and either SCU or The Briscoes win in squash matches so we feel good about the guys who are staying?

Or should we all just relax and enjoy pro wrestling for once?

I am going to advocate for the latter. This card is stacked from top to bottom. This is the closest to an All In card that ROH could have put together, without outsider company help. Only a handful of people know what is going on with AEW. But, it seems easy to say that if that company starts on January 1st. It will be hard for them to put a card like Final Battle on in the near future.

In the meantime, I suggest that we all should sit back and enjoy a great show. I look forward to the future ROH/NJPW/AEW super show that will blow future WrestleManias out of the water.
