Watch Weed-Munching Goats Get To Work In Palos Verdes

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA — What works faster than a weed wacker for clearing brush? About 400 Fire Grazer goats, who will spend the next few weeks clearing mustard, acacia and other hazardous brush from 20 acres of Palos Verdes Estates parkland.

The City is using goats to get rid of weeds in Lunada Canyon for the first time, officials announced Monday.

“Goats are a popular alternative to traditional methods because they make very little noise, only leave fertilizer behind, and are as cute as can be,” Interim City Manager Carolynn Petru said. “The goats are already a familiar sight on the Peninsula, as they are used the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy, some of the other Peninsula cities, and the School District for many of their weed abatement projects.”
