Sven Botman to travel ‘early next week’ for Newcastle United medical

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sven Botman will travel early next week to complete his move to Newcastle from Lille, with a €37m deal having already been agreed between the two clubs. Sources contacted by GFFN last week confirmed the imminent signing of the dutch defender, with the paperwork being completed and signed by both parties.

The 22-year old was waiting for a suitable offer from AC Milan, but the Italian side could not compete with the Newcastle offer of €37m plus add-ons. Whilst the player has spoken highly of Newcastle in the past, Lille were reportedly putting pressure on the centre-back to accept the Premier League side’s offer.

Botman made 25 appearances and scored 3 goals for LOSC this season, who struggled to adapt to the departure of their Ligue 1 winning coach Christophe Galtier – who is now set to become PSG manager. Whilst during the title win Botman was applauded as a cultured centre back with an eye for a pass, last season has shown his ability to shine in Lille’s defensively darkest moments as a last-man that can put in a game-saving tackle.
