It was announced on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown live that John Cena will be making his return to WWE television on the final SmackDown episode of 2016.
Cena was written off SmackDown for several weeks so he can film FOX’s American Grit. He also recently signed on to a movie called The Wall, and according to Wrestling Observer Radio there’s concern within WWE about Cena taking more acting jobs in 2017.
The December 27th episode of SmackDown featuring Cena’s return airs from the Allstate Arena, in Chicago, IL. There’s currently no word on if Cena will be booked in a full match.
