NJPW in 'significant talks' for return to AXS TV

NJPW has had talks with AXS TV about a possible return to the channel.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that there have been significant talks regarding New Japan returning to AXS TV. AXS has been wanting the programming back. There is no deal currently, but according to Meltzer, “the talks are enough to where the odds are considered decent a deal ends up being reached”.

NJPW originally aired on AXS TV from 2014-2019, but ended their run once Anthem purchased AXS TV in the fall of 2019. NJPW recently announced a new deal with The Roku Channel, where they started airing content on February 11.

Impact and NJPW have been working together more in recent months. Chris Bey represented Impact during the 2020 Super J Cup tournament in December. Additionally, David Finlay and Juice Robinson made their debut for Impact this past Tuesday, defeating Reno Scum. After the match, they confronted the current Impact Tag Team champions, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows.
