Friends Lily Rafii and Sulaika Zarrouk created their line, Felix Rey, in March 2001. Rafii brings a background in finance and Zarrouk, a degree from FIT and tenure at Donna Karen. They joined forces with the desire to fill the niche for stylish, statement-making handbags that don’t cost a fortune in the New York City market. Their designs quickly made waves nationwide. Named after the doctor who treated Van Gough after he cut off his ear, Felix Rey clutches, totes and day bags have been featured everywhere from feature films “Shall We Dance” and “Monster in Law” to MTV’s “The Hills.” All pieces exhibit a fresh and feminine approach to vintage inspiration, and incorporate accents like bows, ruffles and hearts to create the collection’s “Sex and the City” meets “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” essence.
