While Johnny Gargano was ultimately unsuccessful in challenging Adam Cole for the NXT Championship this Saturday night at Takeover: Toronto, the Canadian fans paid tribute to the black-and-yellow brand’s heart and soul following his grueling main event performance.

Candice LeRae assisted her clearly beaten and weary husband after Takeover went off the air, but cameras kept rolling as the couple basked in loud “Thank You Johnny!” chants. NXT General Manager William Regal even came out to embrace the triple crown champion, perhaps signaling that this may be one of the last times we see Johnny Wrestling in an NXT ring.

While there has been no official word on whether or not Gargano is headed to the main roster, although it’s hard to imagine he has much left to accomplish after winning all three of the promotion’s championships, and seemingly closing the book on his long rivalry with Adam Cole.

He was actually already brought to the main roster earlier this year, but due to the unexpected injury of Tommaso Ciampa and the NXT title being vacated going into WrestleMania weekend, Gargano’s comeback was pushed back.
