Kota Ibushi Wins Gold In Epic Battle For The Ages At ‘G1 Supercard’

Kota Ibushi became the new IWGP Intercontinental champion at the G1 Supercard on Saturday night, April 6. The Golden Star defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon leader Tetsuya Naito in a match that many believe stole the show.

This was just another chapter in the rivalry between Naito and Ibushi, who have waged war before in Japan. Every time they face off, they tear the house down and this match was surely no exception.

Naito went into this bout stating the he wanted to be the first man to hold both the Intercontinental and IWGP Heavyweight Championships. But that was not to be, as Ibushi took Naito’s Destino finisher, yet kicked out at two. Kota hit the Kamigoye to get the win and the championship.

Ibushi was not the first new champion crowned at the G1 however, as Jeff Cobb walked away with the ROH World Television Championship and the NEVER Openweight title when he defeated Will Ospreay. The ROH World Tag Team Championships also changed hands as the IWGP Tag Team Champions The Guerrillas of Destiny, left with both sets of titles.
