With WWE live crowds greeting Raw star Roman Reigns with increasing hostility, it appears as if WWE is testing out a new tactic in an attempt to get the crowd to cheer The Big Dog as a babyface.
Dave Meltzer noted on today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is rehashing the old storyline with Daniel Bryan in which Bryan was a victim of unfair treatment from management, and was consistently “screwed” out of opportunities such as title shots and big match wins.
The storyline with Bryan pitted him against The Authority, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, with The Game constantly referring to Bryan as a “B+ player” in WWE. The conclusion of the storyline saw Bryan defeat Triple H in a singles match at WrestleMania 30, allowing him to defeat Randy Orton and Batista in a Triple Threat match to capture the World Heavyweight Title on the same night.
Meltzer noted that WWE is trying its best to get the fans to cheer Roman Reigns by mirroring the Daniel Bryan storyline, which is why Reigns cut a promo on WWE Raw this week claiming he has been “screwed” by management. Meltzer added the fans are not buying the attempt by WWE to get Reigns over with the storyline, largely because Reigns has not really been screwed by anyone other than the controversial finish to the Greatest Royal Rumble match.
