As seen on WWE Raw last night, a pre-taped interview segment featuring Bobby Lashley and Renee Young aired, and it featured the former ECW Champion reflecting on his family life, and telling various stories about his three older sisters.
In the beginning of the interview, Renee Young made mention of Lashley training for the Olympics early on in his career, but neither she nor Lashley told the story of why his Olympic aspirations were cut short.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Lashley did indeed have his goal of competing in the Olympics cut short, but it was not because of a training or wrestling related injury, but rather due to a bank robbery.
Meltzer noted Lashley was at the bank one day, and somebody came in to rob the bank, armed with guns, and began shooting when they entered the premises. To avoid being shot, Lashley dropped to the ground and in so doing he landed hard and blew his knee out. The injury effectively curtailed Lashley’s shot at the Olympics, as he could no longer train for the games after suffering the blown out knee.
