Man Utd are keen on signing Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams and have added him to their ‘shortlist’, according to reports.
The Red Devils strengthened their midfield extensively in the summer transfer window with the additions of Casemiro for £70m from Real Madrid and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.
But there is a feeling that Man Utd could still do with more depth in that area of their squad with former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips on their list before he made the switch to Man City.
And Football Insider insist that Erik ten Hag could attempt to sign one of the Yorkshire club’s summer signings with Adams the subject of ‘long-time interest’ from Man Utd.
It is understood that Man Utd ‘are continuing to monitor Adams as they shortlist potential central midfield captures’ after the USA international made a good start to life at Elland Road.
Adams signed from RB Leipzig for £15m in the summer, with the 23-year-old making a big impression, before recently picking up a muscle injury ahead of their 3-2 loss to Fulham.
USA legend Eric Wynalda insisted earlier this month that his compatriot was “blowing everyone off the charts” during his time at Leeds.
“If you’ve been an American who’s been paying attention to the metrics of all of this and we include science in a lot of the things we do, Tyler Adams is blowing everyone off the charts,” Wynalda told VegasInsider.
“There’s nobody even close miles covered, to races won, to how many touches that he has, tackles that he’s engaged in.
“Whether he’s won them all is a different story but this kid doesn’t stop moving. He doesn’t stop running. There’s nothing like him. I haven’t seen anything like him in a long time.
“That’s the reason he wears the captain’s band every once in a while for the US.”
Another part of the pitch Man Utd could look to address in the next couple of transfer windows is up front with Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club very unstable.
The Portugal international has been looking to leave Man Utd since it was confirmed that they wouldn’t be playing Champions League football this season.
Ten Hag has only started Ronaldo in the Premier League on two occasions this campaign with the 37-year-old’s unhappiness coming to the fore last week.
He refused to come off the bench during United’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham before leaving Old Trafford early.
Ronaldo was fined and made to train by himself as punishment before returning to first-team training on Tuesday and clearing the air with Ten Hag.
And Spanish publication Nacional claim that Ten Hag wants Man Utd to ‘exchange’ Ronaldo for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.
The report insists that ‘there is nothing that can remedy’ the broken relationship between Ten Hag and Ronaldo.
And ‘the footballer he likes the most at the moment’ to replace Ronaldo is former Borussia Dortmund forward Dembele, who has contributed three goals and five assists in La Liga this term.
It is understood that Man Utd would be able to ‘easily pay’ the €50m needed to buy Dembele with the France international agreeing a release clause in his contract.
