L’Équipe are reporting that Sochaux forward Alan Virginius (19) has elected to join Lille over Newcastle United, Nice, Lorient, Anderlecht and Bayern Leverkusen.
The France U19 international has elected to remain in France and make the step up into Ligue 1 rather than move abroad. It had earlier been reported by Le10Sport that Newcastle were preparing a €10m offer for Virginius, but the player’s preference was to continue his development in France.
Within France, there is still significant competition for his signature. Only yesterday, it was reported by L’Équipe that Lorient had formulated a loan to buy offer for the striker. Nice meanwhile, in search of attacking reinforcements, are also interested in the player.
However, Virginius has decided that he wants to join Lille, despite the fact that Les Dogues are yet to formulate an offer. That is expected in the coming days, however, with a fee between €3-4m being touted.
