L’Équipe report this evening that Neymar’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain will be automatically extended through to the end of the 2026/27 season on July 1, despite ongoing doubts with regard to his future in the French capital.

The Brazilian’s three-year contract extension signed in the spring of 2021 – which at the time committed his future to the club until 2025 – featured two extra years. The first of these would be triggered on July 1, 2021, and the second exactly a year later.
Nevertheless, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was ambiguous on the former Barcelona man’s future during yesterday’s round of interview to Le Parisien, Marca and Gazzetta dello Sport.
He told Le Parisien that “I expected all of the players to do more than last season. Much more! The message is clear: working each day at 200%. To give everything we have for this shirt, to give it our all, and then we’ll see what the result is. We have to become humble again. We have to change to avoid injuries, suspensions and fouls which can change games. We’ll stop saying that we want to win this, this and that. We’re building. We have to discipline ourselves, both on and off the pitch. […] Those who want to stay in their comfort zone will stay to one side.”
Al-Khelaifi was later asked by Marca whether Neymar was part of his new project, to which he responded that “some will come and others will go, but these are private negotiations”.
Neymar’s entourage has considered the president’s words to be “very harsh” and reiterated that the Brazilian international was committed to the PSG project and had no intention to leave. Nevertheless, Foot Mercato have indicated that new sporting adviser Luis Campos would be open to a sale, with the club’s Qatari owners in agreement.
Should PSG look to sell the forward on, there would be a shortage of offers given his high salary – Newcastle are said to be interested, but Neymar himself is resolutely against joining the Premier League side. An absolute worst case scenario would see PSG pay out the €130m they would owe him for the rest of his deal. Nevertheless, his return to form towards the end of the current season could be a cause for optimism, despite having missed a large chunk of the season.
