Vitorino Hilton announces retirement at 43

Brazilian central defender and Montpellier’s veteran stalwart Vitorino Hilton on Thursday announced his retirement from professional football after MHSC chose not to offer him a new contract, with his final deal expiring yesterday.

The 43 year old enjoyed 24 years as a professional footballer and became the oldest active outfield player in Europe’s top 5 leagues in modern history.

“This was not an easy decision, but it is time to write a new page in the book of my life. It still hurts my heart to know that I will no longer be on the pitch as a professional footballer. These were 24 years of dedication and love for this sport that has given us a lot of things.”
