La Provence and L’Équipe report that 38-year-old French goalkeeper Yohann Pelé and understudy to Steve Mandanda, has agreed to a new 12-month contract with Ligue 1 side Marseille.
Pelé’s current deal expires at the end of the month & OM, who are heading into the summer window in a cash-strapped situation owing to prior overspending and FFP infringements, have decided that they simply cannot afford to invest in a young, promising, understudy.
OM President Jacques-Henri Eyraud has been conducting these negotiations personally and in quite an unorthodox fashion left the player’s agents entirely out of the talks, leading to anger on their end, surely in a bid to save on potential commission fees, as the club seeks to save costs wherever possible.
Regardless, Pelé is expected to sign the extension.
