Petition Filed In SC Challenging 10 Per Cent Reservation For Economically Weaker Upper Castes

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Constitution Amendment Bill that promises 10 per cent reservation for economically backward sections in the upper castes or general category.

The bill has been cleared by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and may soon become a law.

The bill is seen as a major booster for the Narendra Modi-led NDA government keeping in mind the General Elections due this year in May.

The petition has been filed by Youth For Equality organisation and Kaushal Kant Mishra seeking the quashing of bill. The petition says that economic criterion cannot be a basis for reservation.
