Couples waiting to get their marriages registered is a regular sight at the KR Puram sub-registrar’s office. Except that the registration of the couple which waited for two hours at this office on Tuesday wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago.

In a victory for transgenders, Akkai Padmashali, transwoman and activist, officially registered her marriage with Vasudev V. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple received their certificate from a registry official, who wished them the best of luck.
