Commission concerned about cathode cartels
If found guilty, firms could be fined 10% of their annual turnover.
The European Commission said today that it suspects several manufacturers of cathode ray tubes are guilty of forming cartels. The Commission said that it had notified the companies, which have not been named, of its concerns and presented them with evidence.
The Commission can fine the companies up to 10% of their annual turnover, if it finds them guilty of restrictive business practices. The companies will be given an opportunity to respond before a final decision is taken.
The Commission said in a statement that it suspected that separate cartels had been formed in the market for cathode tubes used in computer monitors and for those used in television sets.
The Commission carried out dawn raids at the companies’ premises in November 2007.
