WISCONSIN — Steven Avery, the man serving life in prison for the 2005 rape and murder of freelance photographer Teresa Halbach in Manitowoc County in 2005, has a new message for his supporters.

People around the world became compulsive followers of the saga of convicted Manitowoc County killers Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey since “Making a Murderer” appeared on Netflix in December 2015.

Downers Grove, Illinois, wrongful conviction attorney Kathleen Zellner took up Avery’s case, vowing to prove that Avery was framed for the Halloween 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach and that the real killer was still at large.

In a letter obtained by and published online by Zellner, Avery penned his message, stating that he had been framed in the crime.

According to the text of the letter, which Zellner says Avery penned himself from prison, Avery wrote the following:

“I was framed by corrupt prosecutors, bad lawyers and crooked cops. I am fighting for my life. Can you hear me?”

In the letter, Avery called for public support for his case, and that he is not giving up.

“There are times that I feel like giving up. I’ve been in prison 34 years as an innocent man. This is not justice,” he wrote.
