After 10 years of misfortunes, Polish team beat the World Champion and successfully began their World League trip.
Although this match was held in Canada, there was a huge number of Polish fans and they made a wonderful atmosphere. Two first sets were very similar. Brazil (with great Ricardo) was leading through the most of those parts, but Poles made a speed up in the end. Both teams played well in defence, there were many many long actions. It was 2:0 Poland in sets and they also had match ball, but finally Brazil said this last word. In the next part, the game was still tough. Both Brazil and Poland were doing really well, but in the and Polish team made some mistakes, so we all had to prepare for tie break. Thanks to Michal Winiarski, his team had a advantage 8:3. Brazil made up some points, but the difference was too big.The last point was gained by Michal Kubiak and Andrea Anastasi and his players went crazy over this victory.

Polish coach Andrea Anastasi: “It was an interesting start to the tournament. It was a great match for both teams. We fought for every point. We still need to improve our system of play.”
Polish captain Marcin Mozdzonek: “We are happy we won today. It was a tough hard game and very entertaining for the spectators. It was our first World League game and we were coming off some very hard training. We have lots of things to improve.”
Brazil coach Bernardo Rezende: “There was a lot of spirit on the court. For us, it was a chance to see where we are and now we need to forget about this match and focus on Canada. They are improving every year and have a great coach. They had a big win today and they’ll be full of confidence.”
