Justice will ‘catch up with’ Burma generals, warns UN expert ahead of release of Rohingya report

A leading United Nations human rights investigator has slammed Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s civilian leader, for acting as a “fig leaf for military atrocities” against the Rohingya minority.

In an interview ahead of Tuesday’s release of a 400-page report on alleged “genocidal” crimes against the Rohingya, Australian lawyer Chris Sidoti said that Ms Suu Kyi could not escape responsibility for failing to act over the violence.

The report by a team of three independent experts, including Mr Sidoti, will provide the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva with harrowing details of a killing and rape spree during a Burmese military operation that prompted more than 700,000 Rohingya to flee to Bangladeshi…
