Famous Stadium Demolition Confirmed, Asuka Breaks Punk’s Record

It was announced on WSB TV Atlanta that the iconic stadium known as the Georgia Dome is set to be demolished later this year. It has been in operation since 1992, and it can sit over 80,000 people. The stadium has hosted two Super Bowl games, one in 1994 and the other in 2000. The Georgia Dome has been outdated for a while now, and it is set to become the parking lot for the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium which will be opening August 26th, 2017 with an Atlanta Falcons game against the Arizona Cardinals. The stadium is set to be imploded on November 20th, 2017.
The Georgia Dome has hosted legendary events, including from the sport of pro-wrestling. It hosted Wrestlemania 27 back in 2011, and it was home for some Raw shows and many WCW Nitro shows back in the 1990s. It was where the infamous “Fingerpoke of Doom” occurred, and it was where former Atlanta Falcons player Goldberg defeated Hulk Hogan to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. It is definitely a stadium with a lot of history for numerous different categories, but the stadium will be obsolete once the new one is complete. AMB CEO Steve Cannon confirmed the implosion date in a statement.
In other news, Asuka has surpassed CM Punk’s title reign of 434 days that he set a few years back. CM Punk defeated Alberto Del Rio to win the WWE Championship at Survivor Series 2011, and held it for over a year before losing it to The Rock at the Royal Rumble in 2013. Similarly, Asuka defeated Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover: Dallas back on April 1st, 2016. The next record that she could beat is the New Day’s 483 day record as the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in history. Asuka is undefeated in NXT right now, and her cockiness has gotten the better of her in recent weeks. Her days of being an undefeated champion could be numbered with each passing week.
