Kane Expected To Quit Wrestling To Pursue Career As Politician

Kane is expected to officially announce his intent to run for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, on Tuesday, according to a report by WBIR-TV, an NBC affiliate in Knoxville.
A spokesman for Kane, whose real name is Glenn Jacobs, said the wrestling legend will make a “special announcement” at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Sweet P’s Barbeque restaurant in South Knox County.
The 49-year old will likely announce his Republican candidacy for Knox County in 2018. He’s made a name for himself among his east Tennessee neighbors as a businessman, running an insurance company named Jacobs Insurance Associates.

Last month, he filed paperwork announcing he had a treasurer for a potential run as Knox County mayor in 2018. It’s a required step for candidates seeking office in the county.
He is not the first WWE superstar to venture into the political world, as Rhyno – real name Terrance Guido Gerin – ran as the Republican primary for the 15th District seat of the Michigan House of Representatives, though he was defeated by Democratic Primary winner Abdullah Hammoud in last November’s general election. Jesse “The Body” Ventura is perhaps the most famous WWE performer turned politician, serving as the 38th governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003.
Kane’s move to politics would mark the end of an era in the WWE just days removed from the alleged retirement of the Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. Nicknamed “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” and cast as the Undertaker’s brother, Kane joined the WWE in 1995 and has enjoyed an iconic career over the past 22 years.
After both feuding and teaming up with the Undertaker over the first 10 years with the WWE, Kane became one of the main event stars, winning the World Heavyweight Championship, the WWF Championship and 12 tag team titles with various partners, including Undertaker, Mankind, X-Pac, The Hurricane, Rob Van Dam, the Big Show and Daniel Bryan.

Kane hasn’t made an appearance with WWE since injuring himself on SmackDown in a victory over Baron Corbin last November.
