Firefighters Use YouTube Video To Coax Ducklings To Safety

LITTLETON, CO — A flock of ducklings found themselves stuck in a storm drain this week, but were saved by some innovative firefighters. The birds were separated from their mother, and were reluctant to come out of the drain.

A South Metro Fire rescue crew was able to rescue four of the ducklings from the water at the bottom of the drain, but four others wouldn’t come out of a hiding spot in a nearby pipe.

Since learning duck calls wasn’t part of their firefighter training, the crew decided to find the next best thing — a YouTube video of duck calls. A firefighter held his phone up to the opening of the pipe and played the video.

The ducklings heard the sound and walked toward it. The crew was then able to scoop them up and reunite them with their mother, who was waiting patiently nearby.
