According to a report from L’Équipe, Hertha Berlin have rejected two offers from Olympique Lyonnais for attacking midfielder Dodi Lukebakio. They also add that other European clubs had made similar approaches, but that the German outfit has put out a blanket response.
According to a concurrent report from Goal‘s Marc Mechenoua, Lyon had sought the former Toulouse man on loan with an option to buy. With the departure of Karl Toko Ekambi, Lyon looked to the closing days of the January transfer window to bolster their attacking options. While their successful move for Botafogo forward Jeffinho was announced earlier today, it appears that their interest in the 25-year-old Lukebakio will go unanswered.
The Belgian international has a good record for his club this season, with seven goals and two assists across 17 appearances. It is perhaps precisely because of this that Hertha are unmoving in their approach: the club holds a poor position in the league at 17th after 18 games. Local rivals Union Berlin, second in the league – and only one point behind serial winners Bayern Munich, have finished above them in the league for the past two seasons. Squarely in the relegation zone, Hertha will look to Lukebakio in their efforts to survive the drop.
