PSG attacker Lionel Messi will participate in the third edition of the “peace match” on November 14, 2022. A friendly affair to pay homage to the late Diego Armando Maradona, the game will be hosted at Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
As per a video published on the website of WePlayForPeace (a foundation set up by Pope Francis), the event will take place only one week before the Qatar World Cup.
It is understood that Messi will not be the only notable footballer to take part in the match, with the likes of Luis Suárez, Ivan Rakitić, Dani Alves, Ronaldinho, Gianluigi Buffon, Pepe Reina, Ángel Di María, and Maxi Rodríguez also invited to play in tribute to Pibe de Oro. Former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will also be reportedly present in the event.

Elaborating on the magnitude of the occasion, Messi said:
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to be here with the Pope and all these great players. It is important that each of us joins this call for peace. We can change things together!”
