Official | Benoît Costil completes free transfer to Bordeaux

Former Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil has completed a free transfer to Bordeaux.

The 29-year-old let his contract run down at Rennes and made it clear that he was looking to move on after his six years with the club, and has now signed a four-year-deal with Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side.

“I am very happy with my first steps here. I am impressed with the facilities at the club, the environment is very nice and there is a real Girondins de Bordeaux stamp around the place.”

Costil started his career with Caen before winning the best goalkeeper award in Ligue 2 in 2011. A move to Sedan soon followed before making the jump to Rennes where he would spend six successful years. His reputation as a solid and underrated goalkeeper grew, and finally after much debate about where he would end up for the next season, he has chosen to join Bordeaux.

At the age of 29 and with over 300 professional games under his belt, Costil will be looking to reach new heights with his new club and reach a European stage, something that Bordeaux just missed out on this campaign.
