MWCA Scholarship Recipients 2020

The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association has awarded six $1,000 scholarships this year. Any senior who has wrestled at a Minnesota high school and is college-bound was eligible to apply.

Here are this year’s scholarship winners:

Spencer Poll of Delano High School is the son of Tony and Katie Poll and is coached by Jeff Olson. Spencer has been on the Delano wrestling team for four years and is an outstanding student. He carries a 4.1 weighted GPA and is currently the president of Delano’s chapter of The National Honor Society. In addition to wrestling, Spencer is a three-year letter winner in both football and track and volunteers in his community and school.

Jace Paplow wrestles for Tracy Milroy-Balaton Westbrook Walnut Grove under coach Karl Campbell. The son of Lee and Tisha Paplow, Jace plans to continue his wrestling career at Southwest Minnesota State University. Jace is very active in his school and community. He has lettered 4 times in football and is in the school choir and FFA. He was a state wrestling entrant as a Junior and is involved with his church.

Wyatt Simon from Maple River High School is the son of Ted and Misti Simon and is coached by Dan Robbins. Wyatt was a wrestling state place winner last year, and he also is on the football and track teams. Wyatt is a well-rounded individual as he is a member of the National Honor Society, concert band, concert choir and the local FFA chapter. Wyatt was his school’s AAA award winner. He plans on attending NDSU.

Trey Kruse from Stillwater High School is the son of Troy and Lisa Kruse and is coached by Tim Hartung. Trey is a four-time state wrestling tournament entrant and has placed twice. He also is a member of the football team and baseball team, and is captain of the baseball team. Trey is an outstanding student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Trey volunteers extensively in his school and community. He was featured on national TV for his friendship with a special needs person. Trey is undecided about his choice of college.

Brock Rinehart attends Woodbury High School and is coached by Justin Smith. Brock is a three-sport athlete, excelling in them all. He is a two-time wrestling state place winner. Brock was a four-year starter on both the Woodbury football team and baseball teams. He also has found time to volunteer extensively in his school and community. The son of Kim and Gary Rinehart, Brock will attend South Dakota State University.

Eric Rasmussen from Delano High School plans on attending Iowa State University. He is coached by Jeff Olson and is the son Jason Rasmussen and Diane Devinck. Eric has earned 4 varsity letters in wrestling, 3 varsity letters in football and 2 in baseball. He is an outstanding student as he has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Eric volunteers in his school, church, and community.
