#17 Mavericks Handle #10 Peacocks
FAYETTE, Iowa — The No. 17 Minnesota State wrestling team took on the No. 10 Upper Iowa Peacocks Friday night inside Dorman Memorial Gymnasium, earning a 22-15 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 9-2 (5-1 NSIC), while the Peacocks fall to 12-4 (5-2 NSIC).
MSU won six of the 10 bouts, with all three ranked wrestlers coming out on top for the Mavericks.
The dual started at 197 lbs., where Matthew Blome dropped a 9-4 decision to No. 2 Nick Baumler. In the heavyweight match, Max Villnow fell to Triston Westerlund by a 6-3 decision to give the Peacocks a 6-0 lead.

The Mavericks got on the board at 125 lbs. when Trenton McManus earned a win after Philip Ihde was injured early in the second period.
MSU forfeited the 133-pound match before stringing together five consecutive wins to take a 22-12 lead. No. 9 Louie Sanders used four takedowns a reversal and riding time point to earn an 11-3 major decision win over Tate Murdy. At 149 lbs., No. 3 Kyle Rathman used a third-period escape and takedown to come out with a 4-3 win over No. 7 Chase Luensman. Cooper Siebrecht followed with a 3-1 win over Mac Spotts before Logan Saltou defeated Chance Throndson by a 7-4 decision and No. 10 Zach Johnston defeated Jamie Gehling by a 6-2 decision.
At 184 lbs., Trevor Turriff managed to escape from Dalton Hahn to tie things up at 3-3 after two periods. However, Hahn got an escape, a takedown, and a riding time point in the third period to come away with a 7-3 win.
The Mavericks will return to action Friday, Feb. 14, when they host the Augustana Vikings at Taylor Center. The dual will begin at 7:00 p.m.
